Hurricane Irene- Aiding Local Emergency Services - Station 800
Saturday, August 27, 2011

Hurricane Irene swept up the coast causing billions of dollars in damage throughout the east coast. With the storm approaching, several departments were preparing for the storm by forming Standy-By crews to be ready in the event of an emergency. Just as several homes throughout Worcester County, food needed to be served to several people needing shelter that either came to assist the cause or was forced out of their homes. Ocean City Emergency Servicers was flooded with personell from various parts of Maryland, here to aide in the event of a disaster. Our department delivered food to Ocean City Emergency Services, feeding hundreds of hungry workers and volunteers. Roast beef, Smoked Ham, Hot Dogs, Hamburgers, and String Beans were served to emergency personnel. Over $3,000 worth of food was estimated served. Our department would like to remind our readers that in a time of crisis everyone needs to come together to pull through the storm, nomatter how big or how small the need. The Showell Volunteer Fire Department hopes that all personnel present that day enjoyed our food!
