Showell Volunteer Fire Department

At approximately 1515 hours, Showell Fire Department was alerted for a reported explosion at the old Purdue Plant on Pitts Rd. Firefighter 833 took command and reported that smoke and fire was evident upon arrival, meanwhile a 1-3/4 inch speed lay was taken off immediately to begin extinguishing the flames. Firefighter 819 took the nozzle as Firefighter 825 aided in feeding the line into the area. The flames were quickly put out and firefighters began searching for any other heat. After investigation from the Fire Marshall determined the cause of the fire being a bird that landed on the transformer causing an explosion.
